Open Letter to Morrissey from Xenia Ivanova

Dear Morrissey,

Sometimes it seems this world has turned into a circus – with all the cruelty, lame jokes and fake smiles. It feels like there’s no place for true emotions and original thinkers, and freedom is lost and forgotten just to please everyone, to stay safe and to sell more. In this sense, to be old-fashioned means to be sane…

But we are still here to enjoy the music we love. To be ourselves and to go against the mainstream, as we always did – it hurts, but it’s worth it. And we need you, like we need oxygen.

I owe you too much to put it into words. I believe in poetry, I believe in free speech, I believe in you – otherwise, there’s no point.

Please, remember:
You are beautiful
You are loved
You are the rarest smile of the universe.

No Thought Police can cancel that!

Hope to see you again when the apocalypse is over.

Xenia Ivanova,
St. Petersburg, Russia
