Real Life Shoplifters: Aziza Asadova

I was sixteen (clumsy and shy) when I first heard of The Smiths. I saw “There is a light that never goes out” on top of “100 songs you should hear before you die” list and downloaded it straight away. By the time I got to the chorus I knew I was in love. Morrissey opened a world I was yearning for all my conscious life. Next couple of years I’ve spent searching for books by Keats and Yates in the shops of this seaside town that they forgot to bomb; reading of Dallow, Spicer, Pinkie and Cubitt; watching Albert Finney movies and listening to songs that saved my life. The more I learnt of Morrissey the closer I wanted to get. And though some people see no worth in him, I do. For he’s always been true to me.
