Real Life Shoplifter: Stuart Douglas

So it was 37 years ago as a fifteen year old boy, at a mates on a cold Scottish winter Friday evening, Whistle test was on and The Smith’s were the live band. I was already aware of them through John Peel and the NME but to see them live was a revelation, how he dressed, how he sang, how the audience interacted was magical.
A couple of months later and I saw The Smith’s live for the first time at Glasgow uni. I was hooked and saw them a further two times at Glasgow Barrowland.
I’ve only cried twice in my life and the first time was when the band split up. Remember it clearly, sitting in my girlfriend’s bedroom. The other time I cried was when my son was born, I named him Stephen Patrick (preferred the spelling).
Lost count of the times I’ve seen Morrissey solo but the highlights are the times I’ve seen him in the USA and the Boxers tour (that line up and the gigs every bit as good as the Smiths were)
Don’t listen to The Smiths that much now as Morrissey solo is my preferred choice, although the new movie has turned me back onto The Smiths recently .
Can’t imagine Morrissey and The Smiths not being part of my life to be honest.
