Open Letter to Morrissey from Ale Kapacevich

It was never easy being your fan.

But not because of me, but for the others… especially for the press and haters on duty. Since the time of The Smiths you’ve always been singled out and accused of so many things.

They never valued your condition as an authentic human being, regardless of who it weighs; They never appreciated your support for the cause of animal rights: “Meat Is Murder” changed, and continues to change, the lives of thousands and thousands of people… but especially, it saved the lives of many animals.

Only few artists have the capacity to generate such a profound change in society. Talking and singing about this question in pop music is something really revolutionary. However, instead of having a serious debate on the subject, they keep teasing and making a fool of you. It’s very sad and it hurts.

I will never tire of saying that your songs saved my life and that they were the only refuge I found in dark times and times of great depression. You were always a guide, a friend through the speakers. Your voice, your lyrics, your attitude towards the world were always there to console me and, thanks to your music, I met the love of my life -who continues to accompany me.

I can only thank you for being in this world, and for living in our time. We are fortunate to enjoy your art and your commitment. Every time I attend a show of yours, I enjoy it as if it were the first time. The emotion and passion are still intact. I also appreciate that you continue to want to create new music, and always look forward. That is admirable.

It was never easy being your fan (nor will it be), but I’m proud to be.

Always true to you.
