Real Life Shoplifter: Jenny Gaunt

Morrissey has been a big part of my life since 1983 when I first heard This Charming Man playing on the radio. I was transfixed by his voice immediately, I couldn’t wait to see them perform on Top Of The Pops. I have been addicted ever since….

Morrissey’s lyrics spoke with a Northern voice of the mundane but made the everyday glamourous, I love the humour and can relate to so many of his songs personally. He was the only other vegetarian I knew at that time plus fellow animal rights campaigner.

As a teenager my bedroom was full of Smiths & Morrissey posters, I would save up and buy everything I could on vinyl when it came out. I used to record every TV appearance onto VHS .

I feel very privileged to have seen The Smiths Live on 3 occasions in 1984, 85 & 86 all at Middlesbrough Town Hall.
I am happy & proud to say that I am still very much under the influence of Morrissey & The Smiths to this day.

I still go to as many Morrissey gigs as possible, seen him countless times. It’s always a very emotional experience as I feel so connected with his music & seeing him in real life has me in tears every time….(happy tears).

The last gig I went to was March 2020 in Leeds a few weeks before Lockdown, there was a great atmosphere in ‘The Leeds Side Streets’ before the show.

I now have a large collection of vinyl, ephemera, T Shirts, posters & collectables from over the years which I keep in my Morrissey Shrine.
