Morrissey is an artist of uncompromising integrity. There are very few of those left. Many people talk about the “bravery” of modern pop stars, but I see nothing brave in synthetic cookie cutter pop figures with banal lyrics repeating the same sentiments that are validated by every media outlet, corporation, and big tech entity.
What I do find brave is music that speaks to real human experience. Music that conveys life as it is actually lived, with all the pain, anger, despair, hope, and joy that exists within it.
This is what Morrissey’s music does, and it’s exactly why it has resonated and endured in my heart, and in the hearts of so many others around the world for decades.
