Open Letter to Morrissey from Pekky

We almost shared our birthdays, 20 years apart.

You were a solace with songs that talked about lots of things we had in common, for depression and being different to desires that dared not spoken their names. Then you indirectly encouraged me to embrace those desires.

You dared to speak about the shitty situation in my country that made me run away from it, with the police-like forces trying to kill me and my family for disagreeing with the government of my country, while other colleagues of yours I otherwise love have either remained quiet or showed support. I have lived in America and not returned to protect my life and the fact that someone was aware of my pain meant the world.

You then flew the flag I gave you in more than one concert and I didn’t expect that. It meant the world.

You will always mean the world to me for this and other reasons.

I don’t know how else to articulate what your work has meant to me, but I hope I am getting my message across.

Thank you from my heart.

Pekky
