I was 14 years old, my Thursday night ritual was Top of the pops and the Smiths were on with ‘William it was really nothing’. I can remember the moment Moz ripped open his shirt with the ‘Marry me’ on his chest like it was yesterday. I had a girlfriend who literally was the girl next door. I ran round after to tell her about this, she said “it was disgusting and so gay!!” I knew from that very moment she was not the girl for me, and I have loved Morrissey ever since.
