Open Letter to Morrissey from Gia Jones

Dear Morrissey

I’m writing you to say thank you for saving my life. Your art, your words and your energy have been a constant of mine. As a 12 year old girl many years ago, the abuse I endured at home, and the bullying at school I was done with everything. Then I heard on my radio Asleep… it was this song and How Soon Is Now that carried me out of my darkness. I’ve used the chorus of Shoplifters of the World as my battle cry. You’ve been there on my best days and support me on the dark ones. The fact that you’re vegan and fight for the animals, as I have, gives us a spiritual connection, You inspired me to write, one of my poems was published in my junior year in high school. I also fight for the abused the bullied and the oppressed. Being a pagan woman in a different world you inspired me to fight, to be myself and to make this world a beautiful place. The world is such an amazing place because you and your art heal the broken. Thank you for saving my life, and thank you for your art, and your spirit. My one dream is to meet you one day and say those words of love and thanks. You are a beautiful charming amazing being and the world is blessed to have you in it.

Much love from NC, USA

Gia Jones
