Open Letter to Morrissey from an Anonymous Fan

I can’t find a way to start this message correctly, but I know that if I ever had a chance to talk to you, the first thing I’d say would be “thank you”.

I must thank you for your art, for your words and for the way you express them. I admire you mainly for your authenticity, I couldn’t say that I know you, because I don’t, but I think that a large part of your essence is reflected in your songs and in every written word, and that makes me feel closer to you, and to think that somehow you are a bit like each of us. Because it’s not usual to find artists that allow you to connect with what they’re saying and not just listening to the same empty words, at least these days, but you did. And I’ve found you, just in time, when I needed to hear someone feeling the same as me.

There are songs that became so personal and so mine, in a way, that even if I wanted to, I couldn’t let them go out of my head. Your music has become part of me, and although we may not be talking about the same thing, there are songs that I heard on occasions that I felt that I could no longer continue with anything, but they always made me feel understood by someone, and that is a privilege. Those are just some of the reasons why I think I should thank you.

And of course I want to express my respect and admiration for you as an artist, there is only one like you and you are wonderful, I wish one day you could see yourself from our point of view and understand what you really mean to us. You’re special, there’s something about you, and nobody can change that. It would be incredible if you could feel the support that you unintentionally gave us.

Maybe I have a thousand more things to say, but in these words is what I really would like you to know and I hope that one day you can read it, that would be enough for me.

Thank you, Morrissey. We’ll always stay true to you.
